The International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (iaedp) invites attendees to behold the beauty as seen through the eyes of those affected by eating disorders.

Imagine Me Beyond What You See” is an awareness contest encouraging treatment centers and private facilities with art therapists, as well as students and the general public, to work with patients to design mannequins in a way that reflects their perception of beauty. Paint, paper-mâché, glitter, clay and fabric are all acceptable and usable mediums to alter, illustrate and create a uniquely beautiful body.

The winner will be spotlighted at the 2011 iaedp Symposium, March 3-6, receive a financial award, and have their artwork used, with the hope of educating the public on the misconception of body image, in 2012 iaedp symposium promotional mailings. The winning mannequin will be auctioned off with proceeds going to the iaedp Foundation.

The auction will take place at the red-carpet film premiere of Darryl Robert’s “America the Beautiful: Body Mass Index.” Darryl is an expert on body image in America since directing two movies - “America the Beautiful: Body Mass Index” and “America the Beautiful” - which took a deep look into how Americans link beauty with health, and obsess over outward appearances.

What You See” is an annual Body Image Mannequin Art Competition and Awareness Campaign designed to promote a healthy awareness and acceptance of body images. While mixed mediums are allowed, photographs of all entries had to be submitted to qualify for the contest and will judged on clarity of theme, creativity and originality, quality of composition and design, along with the overall impression and presentation of the piece.

This year’s judges include a distinguished panel of eating disorder professionals, art therapists, and renowned artist, Fritz Liedtke, who will be premiering an exhibit of “Skeleton in the Closet,” his photographic documentary.
